Writer in the Dark

If you asked me to describe heartbreak, I would tell you to listen to "Writer in the Dark." This track demonstrates Lorde's ability to transform pain and heartache into phenomenal art. I feel that the emotional profundity in this song is greater than any other on the record.

Although repetitive, the lyrics are an absolute masterpiece and truly showcase pure sorrow. To me, the best part of the song is the chorus. It feels like Lorde's fluid voice is crying during this part. The two verses hit home as well. The genuine emotion and passion conveyed through the vocals left me with chills. This album is made for those dealing with grief, yearning, and nostalgia. It's simply insane how Lorde can capture emotion so perfectly and melt her audience into tears. The nonpareil part about music is that it connects people despite differences. "Writer in the Dark" is a prime example of the mental healing and catharsis music can help provide. Some may say it's "good depression" or "joyous agony." Whatever you call it, it's art.

The production is astounding, as per usual. I love the inclusion of strings in this track too.

Rating:

"Writer in the Dark" is one of the best songs on this album. The lyrics are a true beauty and hold vast sentimental value.

(All my favorite songs are towards the end of this album, so be prepared for some great reviews!!)
